Emerging Media and Innovation

The Emerging Media and Innovation concentration prepares students to create what's next in digital media. Through hands-on learning, students explore artificial intelligence, immersive media, and digital storytelling while developing creative and technical skills needed to succeed in the new industry. Graduates are prepared to identify future trends, create innovative media experiences, and address the ethical and societal challenges facing the future of communication.

Requirements

All students declaring a major or minor in Media and Communication are required to receive a grade of C or better in all MCEM, MCFL, MCJR, MCOM, MCPA, and MCPD courses. 

The University requires all undergraduate students to complete at least six hours of writing enhanced courses within the discipline, of which three hours must be advanced.

Students will select from Option A, Option B, or a Minor.  Option A consists of 15 semester credit hours in one Subject Area, and Option B consists of 15 semester credit hours in Business or any minor of their choosing.  Any Minor can be paired with this degree; however, a Minor choice with more than 15 SCH will increase the total number of SCH for the degree program above the stated 120 SCH.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) marketable skills initiative is part of the state’s 60x30TX plan and was designed to help students articulate their skills to employers.  Marketable skills are those skills valued by employers and/or graduate programs that can be applied in a variety of work or education settings and may include interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skill areas.

The BA in Media and Communication: Emerging Media and Innovation Concentration is designed to provide graduates with the following marketable skills:

  • Develop specific tools and hardware platforms for AR/VR/XR and UX.    
  • Create immersive environments and events.
  • Develop interactive user experiences (UX).
  • Create interactive stories and narratives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and workflows.
