Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Loss

The Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Loss is offered to graduate students (MA, MEd, and PhD) pursuing degrees within the Department of Counselor Education. The 12-semester credit hour Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Loss is designed for students interested in working with crisis, grief, and trauma. 

Applicants seeking admission to the Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Loss must submit the following directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions:

  1. Graduate Application
  2. Application fee
  3. Official transcripts for mental health-related degree(s)
  4. Master's degree (or currently pursuing a degree at SHSU Department of Counselor Education) in a mental health-related discipline

The Graduate Certificate in Trauma and Loss is designed to provide graduates with the following marketable skills:

  • Trauma counseling.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Grief counseling.
