Students examine the settlement and development of the United States west of the Mississippi River, as well as the region's influence on national and international affairs. Topics may include the Lewis and Clark expedition, indigenous societies, U.S. westward expansion, the Homestead Act, the Dust Bowl, and the region's social, cultural, political, and environmental histories.
