COUN 6364. Counseling For Addictions. 3 Hours.
Students discuss theoretical models of addiction, integrating neurological, psychological, socio-emotional factors impacting addiction development, relapse, and recovery; apply the ACA Code of Ethics to work with mandated clients; practice assessing stage of change and matching interventions to SOC; use brief screening instruments for SUDs and various behavioral addictions; diagnose and develop a treatment plan matched to recommended level of care; practice Motivational Interviewing skills for each SOC; and discuss multiple treatment modalities and trauma-informed treatment interventions and relapse prevention plans.
