CLIN 7802. Surgery Clerkship – 8 Weeks. 8 Hours.
Students gain experience in the care of adults with surgical conditions as they complete the 8-week course in the third year during their core rotations experience. Experiences may include 8 consecutive weeks of general surgery or 4 weeks of general surgery and 4 weeks of a surgical subspecialty service (e.g., bariatric, colorectal, vascular, trauma, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, pediatric, plastics). Students engage with patients in the collection of data, perform physical examinations, attend operative interventions, provide post-operative care, and work with their Attending physician to reason through differential diagnoses and generate a surgical plan for management of common disorders.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of all coursework in years 1 and 2 and passing score on COMLEX-USA Level 1.
