CLIN 7045. Pediatrics – Neonatology (Neonatal Intensive Care, NICU). 1-4 Hours.
Students train with neonatologists who care for neonatal patients with the most serious disease processes in the intensive care setting. The experience may include neonatal nursery, hospital, and emergency department consultations and deliveries in the operating room. Students engage with patients in the collection of data, perform physical examinations, work with their attending physician to reason through differential diagnoses and generate plans for management of patients requiring intensive care due to need for oxygenation, ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), arterial monitoring, multiple intravenous infusions, intravascular infusions requiring titration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and other highly-skilled interventions. Credit Hours: 1-4 hours.
Prerequisite: CLIN 7406.
