CHEM 3438. Biochemistry I. 4 Hours.

Students study the chemistry and functions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, and vitamins, including enzyme kinetics, digestion and absorption mechanisms, and biological buffers. Laboratory exercises are conducted in a four-hour lab. Prerequisite laboratory components must be completed as in-person, supervised laboratory experiences or student must obtain consent of department. Offered Fall, Spring, and Summer (10-week session).
Prerequisite: A minimum grade of C in CHEM 1411, CHEM 1412, CHEM 2323, CHEM 2123, CHEM 2325, and prior credit or concurrent enrollment in CHEM 2125.
