Master of Education in Instructional Leadership

This degree plan is designed specifically for the candidate who wishes to work in a teacher leadership position in an instructional setting that does not require principal certification. These teacher leadership positions are typically in educational organizations. This degree requires completion of thirty-six hours of graduate credit. A comprehensive examination is required during the final semester of coursework. The degree plan originates in the Department of Educational Leadership.

Candidates seeking admission to a graduate program in the Department of Educational Leadership  must meet the basic requirements of Graduate Admissions specified in the Admission section of this catalog. Please, contact the Department of Educational Leadership for additional requirements: phone (936) 294-1147

Please submit the following documents to Office of Graduate Admissions:

  1. Graduate Admissions Application
  2. Application Fee
  3. Official transcript from the baccalaureate degree granting institution
  4. Admission preference given to individuals with a GPA of 3.0 and higher in all undergraduate work.  Consideration will also be given to the individual's last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.
  5. One Reference Form from a supervisor
  6. Personal Essay to include (a) background of the applicant, (b) goals for the future, and (c) why an interest in this degree
  7. Optional: Official GRE scores

Course Prerequisites are strictly observed.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) marketable skills initiative is part of the state’s 60x30TX plan and was designed to help students articulate their skills to employers.  Marketable skills are those skills valued by employers and/or graduate programs that can be applied in a variety of work or education settings and may include interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skill areas.

The MEd in Instructional Leadership is designed to provide graduates with the following marketable skills:

  • Design and deliver professional development for teachers.
  • Work with new teachers to help them adapt to the system and their role as teacher.
  • Assist teachers and principals in curriculum planning and lesson alignment to curriculum.
  • Provide assessment analysis for teachers, principals, and school district officials.
  • Deliver reports to various groups within the organization.
